Lady Behind the Lens
Hey there: I'm your photographer. I'm Alicia, and I'm a 30 something mom who loves quiet time, luxurious strolls through the aisles of Target, and the sound of waves on a beach (best if served with a book in hand and a little sangria). I found my passion for photography when my husband purchased my camera for me at Christmas in 2014. I refused to pick it up for the first 3 months. I was terrified of this thing with all the buttons. And why couldn't I make that blurry background just happen?!? You know what I'm talking about: that smooth background where everything blurs together in a beautiful haze. It wasn't working for me. Then I realized: this thing takes work. Lots of work. And learning. And work. Watching YouTube. And more work! And finally it clicked (see what I did there?? Laughs like an idiot...) And I haven't put the camera down since.
I have two littles: current ages are 13 and 4, and they are some of the funniest people I've ever met. They're quirky, high maintenance (the oldest one) and always messy (the little one). They are my moon and stars.
I'm married to my best friend, and he tolerates my constant camera clicking, late night editing, and pulls over on demand when I see a sky I just must capture and save for later. I am blessed.
One of the things I always get asked is, what type of photography is your favorite. My answer: whatever I'm doing right now. You're my favorite. Your story is my favorite. But honestly, I do love it all. Engagement, Weddings, Maternity, Newborn, Family, and Boudoir. I love it all. I love it best when I can watch your family develop. I'll be your cheerleader from the sidelines when I see an awesome life event on Facebook. I'll cry for you when I see a loved one has passed. I'll pray for you when I see you're having challenging times. I love my clients whole heartedly.
I love shooting outdoors, because I truly believe nature's background is the best, but I also have a studio in Saginaw I use for indoor sessions and my newbie babies. I operate mainly by myself. I will be taking on an assistant for the busy 2018 wedding season, but I am a lone wolf shooter. Gasp! I know...but wouldn't I have double the photos if I had a second shooter?!? Maybe. But I find it easiest to rely only on myself and my own skill set, and function quite well by myself. Am I a control freak? Maybe a little ;)
So this is me in a nutshell, my very first blog post, and I think I did quite well! I steered clear from the squirrel moments I sometimes have (squirrel moment=a distracted state that pulls me in a complete opposite direction, but very helpful for creative folks like myself!) and didn't ramble pointless nonsense (too much!). If you've made it this far, thank you, and I can't wait to work with you and capture your story.
